It really sounds Greek and fictitious but behold, it was a true life
story perhaps depicting the alarming degree of moral erosion in our
society.
The moral depravity rocking human society seems to have reached its crescendo as a 26-year-old young father, one Onyekachi Ekwelem, allegedly sold his six -month old son to enable him secure travel documents to Greece.
Expressing shock on how a man would be so callous as to sell ‘ his own flesh and blood’, the CP said the suspect had already been charged to court.
Similarly, police said a couple, Nneoma and Uchechukwu Gabriel, had been arrested for allegedly selling their newly born baby girl to a yet-to-be apprehended buyer at the cost of N200,000.
The CP said both suspects were still in police net and would soon be prosecuted after investigations.
Police also paraded one Onyedikachi Samuel, a female, from Ovurungwu village in Isialangwa South LGA for allegedly selling her baby in connivance with nurses shortly after she was delivered of the baby in a hospital.
According to police, the woman sold the baby for N150,000, adding that both suspects have since been charged to court at Umuahia Magistrate Court.
In the same vein, police said one Oluchukwu Ogidi from Amoji Ngwa South LGA, reported that his wife connived with a doctor and sold her baby for N300,000 shortly after putting to bed.
The suspects, according to the CP, had been apprehended and charged to court. He added that the doctor also harboured other three pregnant women.
Speaking further, the police boss warned kidnappers and robbers to steer clear from the shores of Abia State, as police would not tolerate any form of criminality in the state, which he added, had been peaceful after kidnappers that besieged it two years ago were flushed out.
He warned that police would deal ruthlessly with anyone caught disrupting the prevailing peace and tranquility in the state.
